Bedford Hotel

Worst hotel I have ever stayed at by a long shot. The staff are frankly some of the most disgusting and despicable people I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. My girlfriend and I unfortunately decided to stay here for a weekend in November 2023, as my grandparents are from the area and it was the two-year anniversary of my grandmother’s passing, so we had planned to stay two nights and were hoping to visit the cemetery and explore the town some. We ended up driving 3.5 hours back home in the middle of the night before even staying one night as a result of our experience. When we arrived we noticed that our entire floor had been taken over by a group of families who were clearly in town for a hockey tournament. Their kids had taken over our hallway playing mini sticks and we were barely able to walk past them without getting hit. Unsurprisingly the parents did nothing and just got drunk while letting their kids run wild. We phoned the front desk to make our initial noise complaint as when we got to our room our door was repeatedly being slammed into by the kids, hit by pucks/balls, and they wouldn’t stop shrieking and screaming at the top of their lungs. It eventually died down some as they presumably went to have dinner and we went out to do the same. When we got back just after 10pm they were back and it had gotten even worse. We wanted to relax and watch a movie but we could barely hear anything due to the shrieking in the hallway, so I went down to the front desk to complain for a second time. I rang the bell for service several times, and there were staff in the back office visible from the lobby having drinks and chatting, but they refused to even look my way. Eventually after 5 minutes of ringing the bell I yelled back asking if I could please get some help. I explained that this was our second time complaining and that the noise was beyond excessive from the kids in our hallway, so the manager agreed to go and talk to them. As I walked back up one of the parents in the hall finally asked me to let them know if they got too loud, to which I responded that they had been for a while. It again died down for a bit, but right around 11pm we started hearing stomping and banging on doors in the hallway. It appeared the kids had come back and were once again running and screaming, as well as pounding their fists on several different doors on our floor. I went down to complain for a third time, as we were unable to enjoy our night, and I requested that they either move us to another floor or provide a refund. They refused to move us, and simply said that if we wanted a refund then we would have to leave now and could not stay the night. Some of the parents started yelling at me and saying their kids were behaving fine and asked why I didn’t come talk to them in the first place. I said that I already told one of them that they were being too loud and the hotel staff have done the same multiple times, that should be more than enough. In response they ganged up on me and began harassing me, and a couple of dads even threatened me to which the hotel staff did nothing. They said if you want a refund you need to hurry and get your stuff and leave now as they were shutting down the front desk for the night. On my way back up to the room I was harassed by several parents who told me to “go back to your room you f-ing loser”. The way we were being treated for wanting a reasonable noise level was beyond unacceptable so we ultimately decided to pack up and drive all the way home around midnight. The front desk called our room several times while we packed, which only took about ten minutes, telling us we had to hurry up and leave if we wanted our refund. On our way out of the lobby, the parents thought it was funny to blast music that went “goodbye, goodbye” - very mature. I have emailed the hotel twice since our visit to make sure the owner was aware of how we were treated and I have been ignored both times.

Great old rooms. Great location. Clean rooms. However, will not be returning due to front desk staff. Namely "Linda" poor personality for a front desk. I got charged double (two rooms on my bill) couldn't reach staff by phone for 5 days. The lady who finally answered in the morning, gave a false name. Told us she was another staff member which was not on duty until late that afternoon. Shame on her.

Terrible service and treatment by the owner and call receptionist. My elderly mother attempted to reserve a room for me christmas eve. She did. The hotel was locked and unable to fulfill their end. Not only did they initially refuse to refund my mother, but they were elusive and out right lied to her about their responsibilities. They were incredibly rude as well, condescending. These are miserable people that have unfortunately become parasitic hosts to a beautiful historic building. Disgraceful. The bartender, Matthew, and the manager, Mary however were reasonable and tried to help. Unfortunately the owner is an arrogant, ignorant individual.

My family member had stayed here before & everything was fine. That OBVIOUSLY was a few years ago. Things have definitely changed!! We got to our room..no tv. We called down to tell them....no..every room has a tv. Um..no, we do not! They came up with one instead of us switching rooms. That would have been much better. We were out with friends & crashed around 11:30. Well, who can sleep with the bar downstairs blaring music until 3:00am!? A glass of water on the nightstand was shaking due to the bass!! We complained the next morning, as no one answers the phone after 11pm. The lady at the front desk was nice, but not her decision to offer a discount. No one at this hotel cares what people think..that is sad. It is time to update the website...no coffee maker & the pics are old!! We gave them ample opportunity..even called back..hence I wish I could give a "0" review!!

The price was equal with others in Goderich. The location was excellent. The bed linen was clean. End of the good part. The bad part was the utterly filthy carpet in the lobby and stairs. The disheveled woman on the front desk was rude, obnoxious and totally unhelpful. Came down on time for breakfast to find a large notice advising the breakfast room was closed for an private event. Rudely told by Mrs Personality that was that so lump it. We stayed here because we like the character of older well run hotels. This is not one we would ever recommend.
